Pakistan is facing sever energy crises which is greatly effecting social, economical, cultural life of Pakistanis.
The crises are too much affecting the lives of average Pakistanis badly who can't afford generator or other heavy sources to get energy for domestic consumption.
To overcome the very problem different public and private sector organizations are designing projects at local level to avail cheap and renewable energy sources.
ACTED Pakistan working in North KP have also implemented such a model and unprecedented project of Micro Hydro Power production In Usherai Dara Dir upper.
Th Unit generating 30 kilowatts of power enough for 250 households was successfully installed in Twagh Usherai Dara with collaboration of Local organization TWO ( Twagh Welfare Organization ).
The Project was funded by People of Japan and it took 6 months to be implemented right from community identification and site selection till the formal operation.
Till now electric connections to 150 house holds have been facilitated with a billing mechanism of 150 Rupees per month by each household which is easily affordable and decided by local Twagh Welfare Organization for maintenance of power plant.
The project is now totally own and maintained by local community through their representative TWO and all the decisions in this regard are made with participatory approach.
On August 30th ACTED Deputy Area Coordinator along with Chief Engineer Sajjad Khan and Project Team leader Samiullah Khatir officially inaugurated the plant and when it was really joyous moment to see the brightened eyes of the villagers when the lite were on in Twagh Welfare Organization office for first time ever.
Point to end my words that there are many ways through which this sever and burning issue of power shortage could be sort out if the government and local people are committed and affirm will.
The government must invite investors and motivate NGOs to work out projects and surely our local communities must cooperate and initiate to end this curb.
How wonderful it will be now when school going kids will open books to read and pick pens to write in their lightened rooms in Usherai Dara Dir lower, this feeling make me really happy and optimistic for bright future of this suffered nation.
