 Nawab Shah Jehan ruled Princely State of Dir For more than Four decades.  Who’s Who’ In The Dir, Swat and Chitral ”  Confidential Report by Secret Department of British India. “Who’s Who’ In The Dir, Swat and Chitral ”  was a confidential report published by the Political & Secret Department, Government of British India in 1933. The particular report covered the leading personalities of that era and provided basic information about them. The author has made an endeavour to provide details about those personalities who belonged to Dir State and whose names has been mentioned in that report. The details of those personalities is given below in alphabetical order (Part 6/ Last Part). 34. Sardar Khan: Sardar Khan is usually known as Bibior Khan. He lives at Bibior and is a distant cousin of the Nawab of Dir. He was formerly a Jamadar in the Dir Levies but was dismissed in 1925 for inefficiency and misbehavior. He is addicted to drugs. 35. The Rulers (Nawabs) of Dir State

  The Rulers ( Nawabs ) of Dir State. Nawab E Dir Darbar ( Public Court) at Dir Mahal In 18 th century a section of Painda Khel (a Pashtun tribe live on the eastern side of river Punjkora in Upper Dir) came from Kohan village in Nehag Dara and took control of the area, including the trade route of Chitral and Afghanistan (Ali, 2010). Mullah Elyas popular as Akhond Elyas Baba, was a member and spiritual leader of Painda Khel in 17 th century. He had a great and respectable position among the Malizai tribe who founded Dir village (Hugh, 1911). Later on his successors established their own dynasty of a state (Anonymous, 1933). The family of Akhond Elyas Baba adopted the name of Akhond Khel as a separate clan ( khel in local language), while the rulers got the title of Khans (Logan, 1883 & 1892). In 1890, Omara Khan of Jandol defeated, the Akhund Khel Khan Sharif Khan (the ruler of Dir state) and took control of the of the Dir state. But in 1895, the British Forces helped Khan Sharif

Feudalism in Dir: The Arrival of Khans and Nawabs. By Fazlul Haq  Fazlur-Rahman      Khanism in Dir    Khanizm started in Dir valley in 1626 AD by a spiritual leader of Maly Zai Tribe named Akhund Ilyas Baba. He was a religious scholar used to preach Islamic education and resolve the tribal disputes and conflicts through Muslims Law and Jurisprudence and also had deep knowledge on local social systems. Slowly and gradually he became popular, effective and respected person in the Maly Zai area. The people began to honor his sayings and soon he established his rule in Dir Village and became the first Khan. His successors managed to extend the territorial limits of their rule giving birth to an autonomous political entity, which later on became the princely state of Dir. After his death in 1676 AD his son Mulla Ismail succeeded to the throne ( Gaddi ) and remained Khan until 1752. He was also educated in Muslims Law and ruled the state in a good manner following his father footsteps.

History Of Princely State Dir In Urdu. دیر اگست 1947 تک شمال مغربی سرحدی صوبے کے اندر برطانوی ہند کے ساتھ وابستہ ایک چھوٹی مسلم ریاست تھی جب انگریزوں نے برصغیر کو چھوڑ دیا  تو کچھ مہینوں تک یہ ریاست  1948  تک غیر متعلقہ علاقہ تھا  جب تک سنہ 1948 مین اس نے پاکستان کے نئے ڈومینین سے الحاق کو قبول کرلیا  1969  میں جب اس کو پاکستان میں شامل کیا گیا تو ریاست کے طور پر دیر غیر متعلقہ  وجود خود بخود ختم کر دیا گیا۔ یہ علاقہ یعنی ریاست دیرجو  ایک لمبے عرصے تک دنیا اور دنیاوی سیاست وترقی سے اوجھل تھا ، تقریبا، 5،282 کلومیٹر 2 (2،039 مربع میل)  پر مشتمل ہے اور آج پاکستان کے صوبہ خیبر پختونخوا میں شامل  ہے۔ اج کل یہ اپر دیر اور لوئر دیر کے نام سے دو اضلاع تشکیل دیتا ہے۔ ریاست کا بیشتر حصہ دریائے پنجکورہ کی وادی میں پڑا ہے جو ہندوکش کے پہاڑوں سے نکلتا ہے اور چکدرہ کے قریب دریائے سوات سے ملتا ہے۔ جنوب مغرب میں چھوٹے علاقوں کے علاوہ ، دیر ایک درہم برہم ، پہاڑی علاقہ ہے جس کی چوٹی چوٹیوں کے ساتھ شمال مشرق میں 5000،000 میٹر (16،000 فٹ

Nawab Shah Jehan Khan. Nawab Shah Jehan Khan ( aka Dir Nawab) became nawab after death of his father Nawab Aurangzeb Khan ( As Known As Charrha Nawab) in 1924. Nawab Shah Jehan was 3rd and second last Nawab of Princely state Dir ( Now Divided in Dir Lower and Dir Upper) ruled till October 1961.
