Education system must be saved from total destruction

Education system must be saved from total destruction

By Naeem Khan

I had several interactive sessions these days with students and teachers. I am once again flabbergasted that there is absolute disappointment everywhere.  I wish to cut them some slack but it was total disaster when I asked them the following very simple questions and they couldn't respond:

What's the difference between education and learning?

What's the purpose of their lives?

What's critical thinking ?

What's creativity?

What's Skepticism?

What are the basics of research methodology?

Is it Nurture or Nature which determines our personalities?

Is second Cold War possible?

Most of them considered Covid-19 as conspiracy. They blamed Jews and West for their lack of intelligence and educational problems!

Even they didn't know what SDGs stand for?

Most of them were going through existential crisis but they didn't know the solution as logotherapy, Existentialism,  K-Theraphy etc.

They know nothing about Scientific Method,  history of Baconian Method, Empiricism and Intuitionism.  Most of them can't be differentiated from laymen.  They have no traces of professionalism.  Most of them waste their TEF mercilessly.  Bigots and uneducated clergymen hold them in their folds as they provide quick fixes and short cuts. Instead of research, creativity, critical thinking; they resort to dogma and indoctrination. They didn't feel ashamed that  there are no intellectuals, scientists,  philosophers and researchers in our part of the world.

Most of the teachers just pass them in exams,  award them degrees and certificates but not knowledge and understanding.  They lack communication skills and I didn't see many self-disciplined and self-confident students as well as teachers.

Let me cut to the chase:

Everything is there is Educational institutions except education.

Solution is the complete overhaul of the education system to base it on the principles of Pedagogy, Principles of Education,  Educational Psychology, Philosophy of Education and so on. Teaching to teachers is of paramount importance. Trainers must be trained.

They won't dig their heels in but drastic measures must be taken to save the boat from further sinking.
