Mir Akbar Khyber A Sane Voice among Afghan Socialists and Communists.
In 1977, Mir Akbar Khyber, a prominent leader of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA), expressed significant concerns regarding the political climate in Afghanistan. He cautioned fellow party leaders Noor Mohammad Taraki, Hafizullah Amin, and Babrak Karmal that the Afghan populace was not prepared to embrace Communism.
Khyber advocated for a more gradual approach to implementing socialist policies and suggested that it would be wiser to support the existing regime led by Daoud Khan, who was then the President of Afghanistan.
Khyber's warnings reflected a deep understanding of the socio-political landscape of Afghanistan at that time.
The country had a long history of resistance to foreign ideologies and interventions, and many Afghans were skeptical about Communist principles. Despite his foresight, Khyber's concerns went unheeded by his colleagues within the PDPA.
Tragically, on April 17, 1978, Mir Akbar Khyber was assassinated, allegedly by his communist colleagues.
